Yes — always, and particularly for midi and maxi lengths where a difference of even 3–4cm in heel height significantly changes how the hem sits. For mini skirts, the difference is less critical but still worth considering. Wear or bring the shoes you most frequently wear with the specific skirt being altered.
No — at Dr. Alter, lining adjustment is included in the hem alteration price when a skirt is shortened. Both the outer fabric and the lining are adjusted in the same operation. If the lining requires separate repair work beyond the standard shortening adjustment, this will be quoted separately and agreed before work begins.
This depends on how much seam allowance remains in the side seams and back seam. Most pencil skirts have enough fabric to let out 1–3cm per seam, which can make a meaningful difference to comfort and movement. The tailor will assess the available seam allowance and advise exactly how much ease can be added before any work begins.
For most plain fabrics — cotton, polyester, crepe and jersey — a well-finished hem is essentially invisible from the outside.
